AUSTIN, TX
Google's East Austin office is a homage to the eclectic neighborhood's past and present while looking ahead towards its future. In an ever-changing area, the intent was to design a proverbial front stoop of East Austin where visitors and employees can experience the influential, vibrant cultures that have been intricately woven into its history.
Spanning six floors and nearly 150 pieces of art, we worked closely with the interior design team to create an intentional and layered package. Taking cues from regional staples, from East Austin Studio Tour to ethnic eateries, every aspect of the space is a celebration of the diverse and inclusive community life.
The artwork—and equally important the artists—plays a pivotal role in visually telling this narrative. met/gal commissioned artists that not only call East Austin home, but that represent the essence of the neighborhood. Inspiration was sought in historical photographs, neighborhood staples, and even parakeets. The commissioned pieces were created to keep East Austin roots planted within the design. Whether the past or present, every corner that Googlers turn brings a piece of the neighborhood and its inhabitants into focus.
To make sure these stories stand the test of time, we documented their collections through a virtual QR code tour that describes each piece and artist and their connection to the area.
